What do you think is Christianity’s most countercultural claim? Is it Christ’s exclusive claim concerning eternal salvation? Is it the Christian sexual ethic? These are both controversial; but, in our opinion, Christianity’s most countercultural claim was explained by Jesus in Luke 9:23: “…If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” This command to follow Him rather than our hearts runs headlong into the speeding bullet train of American culture. In this episode, we critiques expressive individualism and explains why following Jesus is the best way to live. So, want to overcome the tyrant in the mirror? Don’t follow your heart. Follow your Hero.
