Racial bias is America’s most enduring and intractable problem (and, I might add a stronger word—sin). Many Americans, including this one, were grieved by George Floyd’s death. And, in response, protests and then riots have swept the nation with a strength and fury many of us have never seen before. Apparently, legal and cultural strategies to address racial bias and injustice have failed to adequately address America’s past and to create a society that is fully just and equitable. So, where do we go from here as a nation? How can the church lead on the issues of justice and racial unity and produce lasting change rooted in the gospel?
In this episode, I discussed these issues with Pastor Andrew Hunt, the Senior Pastor of New Life Community Church, a member of The Gospel Coalition Indy Leadership Council, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention. Pastor Hunt has led several racial reconciliation efforts in Indianapolis, including the New Hope Great Banquet and the Abba Family Reunion; and, his efforts have been recognized by Governor Mitch Daniels and Mayor Bart Peterson.
Key Takeaways:
- A remarkable exposition of Ephesians 3 and the Bible’s answer for racial bias.
- Pastor Hunt’s reflections on the death of George Floyd and the protests and riots that have followed.
- How the church can lead in promoting a just and equal society.
- The ideas and practices our culture should emphasize in the coming weeks, months and years.
