The major political parties in the United States adopt platforms, formal statements of principles and policies they intend to promote if given the reigns of power. But, what about the church? The church is, of course, a spiritual movement and not a political party. But, shouldn’t Biblical Christians identify key issues supported by Scripture prior to entering the maelstrom of American partisan politics? Rather than having the parties and the media tell us what to care about and promote, shouldn’t we discern that for ourselves? I think so (Rom 12:2).
Stated differently, we shouldn’t do politics according to culture’s playbook. Rather, we should engage government by the Book.
In this episode, I propose a star-shaped platform for Biblical Christians navigating politics in 2020.
Key Takeaways:
- A fantastic quote by Captain America.
- An explanation of the church’s star-shaped public platform.
- Practical ideas for using this platform to engage in public life.
*The initial inspiration for this episode came from the public witness of the early church, as explained by Timothy Keller on The Carrie Nieuwhof Podcast and on this Twitter thread.
