New COVID-19 restrictions (due to a spike in cases and deaths) have sparked another round of litigation over religious liberty concerns. Last week, the United States Supreme Court barred New York Governor Andrew Cuomo from enforcing an Executive Order limiting in-person worship services. Now, a Christian school has petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn a ruling from the 6th Circuit upholding Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear’s Executive Order closing all schools (public and private) over COVID-19 concerns.
In this episode, Josh explains what the Supreme Court said in the New York case (Catholic Diocese), what the Court did not say and a key fact in the case. If you prefer to read the full article, it is available here. Then, Josh walks through the Kentucky case and some key lessons from the district and circuit court opinions.
In sum, here’s the latest on the showdown between religious liberty and COVID-19 restrictions in 2020.
It’s #Giving Tuesday. This year, we’ve helped ministries from coast to coast navigate COVID-19 related restrictions and everything else 2020 threw at us, preached or presented in 20 churches/pastor’s events on gospel-centered citizenship, passed the 150-episode milestone on the podcast, launched a YouTube channel, and released a Biblical, strategic guide for Christian citizenship in 2020 and beyond. Our work would not be possible without the generosity of churches and committed Christians like you. Will you consider donating $21 (or more) to help us prepare for 2021? Here’s that link: https://www.goodcitizen.us/donate/.
