We’ve had a powerful lineup of guests in 2021, including Dr. Irwyn Ince, Justin Giboney, Jonathan Leeman, Sam Allberry, Trevin Wax, Brett McCracken, Dr. Mark Eckel, Darren Myers, DCS Director Terry Stigdon, Attorney Matt Sharp, Daniel King, and Dr. Charles Ware. I have learned much from each of these guests, and I hope you have also enjoyed and learned from these conversations.
Recently, I have had several listeners ask me about my opinion concerning key issues raised in these interviews. We have, of course, covered a lot of ground in the above-mentioned interviews; but these listeners asked specifically about the LGBTQ question, political parties/theology and the question of ethnic unity and justice. So, I wanted to share a few thoughts on these very noncontroversial (cough) topics as we come to the end of June.
Here’s the big idea: Politics, culture, and social media are driving several false choices, and we should reject these false choices while engaging the church, culture and the public square according to Biblical principles. Here are those false choices in greater detail:
- Concerning pride month, the false choice is (1) promote the LGBTQ agenda or (2) accept cultural exile.
- Concerning CRT and the broader issue of ethnic unity and justice, the false choice is (1) stay silent to avoid being branded as “woke” or (2) embrace unbiblical solutions to the problem.
- Concerning political parties, the false choice is (1) fully identify as either Republican or Democrat (rather than as a Christian first) or (2) do not participate in the public square.
Key Takeaways;
- A full explanation of each false choice.
- Suggested steps for rejecting these false choices and engaging these issues according to Biblical principles.
- Here is the link to article cited in this episode: “Jethro’s voting Guide: Ancient Wisdom for a Key Decision.”
- A lesson about culture’s version of courage from none other than Skittles.
- Why each false choice is rooted in an identity problem.
- Why Christians should lean toward cultural engagement rather than just information and analysis.
