So, what’s the plan? The secular progressive vision for the United States is quite clear. So, what is our strategy in response? How can we, as Christian citizens, faithfully fulfill the Great Commission while renewing the American republic for future generations? Here’s how.

Two years ago, I was searching for an answer to the above questions at national conferences and among key leaders. Then, at a dinner, Bob Vander Plaats explained a church-led, state-based strategy for engaging government and transforming the United States through the power of the gospel. That dinner profoundly impacted me and my ministry in the public square, and I wanted to share that vision with you.

Bob Vander Plaats is President and CEO of The FAMiLY LEADER, a ministry in Iowa affiliated with Focus on the Family. His leadership and voice for the family is frequently noted and his comments are widely requested by a vast array of national and international media outlets. The Wall Street Journal, Fox News, and many others have referenced Bob as, “Kingmaker,” while Bob prefers the designation of “Standard Bearer.” Bob is also the author of Light from Lucas, a true story of how God uses the weakest among us to have the greatest impact. The book gives a poignant account of Bob’s son, Lucas, who although severely disabled at birth, offers important life-changing lessons.

Key Takeaways:

  • Bob’s call into ministry in the public square.
  • Why Bob is often called “Kingmaker” (did I mention Iowa?) and why he prefers the term “Standard Bearer.”
  • A brief sketch of the history and current impact of the Family Policy Council (FPC) movement.
  • How the FPC movement has historically engaged the church, why Bob revisited that in 2012, and why The Family Leader launched the Church Ambassador Network.
  • Why the church (and, more specifically, the gospel) is essential to cultural transformation and political renewal.
  • How the Church Ambassador Network has impacted Iowa, and why Bob and his team launched The Daniel Impact (an effort to reproduce the ministry across the US).
  • I’ve personally witnessed the impact of The FAMiLY Leader’s ‘The Daniel Impact’ in Iowa. Elections are impacted, best policies are enacted, and officials are blessed and encouraged when the Church is authentically engaged. I cheer on this proven model and hope it is embraced and enacted in many states.”  -Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds
  • Bob’s remarkable relationship with the late Donna Red Wing, an LGBTQ leader/activist in Iowa.
  • A story about The Family Leader’s National Day of Prayer service and its impact on government officials.
  • An explanation of this church-led, state based strategy for renewing America and how you can get engaged.
