As we enter the 246th year of our Republic, we face increased polarization, economic uncertainty, the lingering effects of a pandemic, a growing secularism, rising geopolitical threats, and deep disagreement over the history and purpose of our union. So, where do we go from here? How can Christians steward their citizenship well and work toward a more perfect union in quickly changing times? Here are some thoughts from Tim Goeglein on addressing these challenges and renewing the American experiment in ordered liberty.

Tim Goeglein is Vice President of External and Government Relations for Focus on the Family. Formerly, he served as a special assistant to President George W. Bush and as a deputy director of the White House Office of Public Liaison. He was the President’s principal outreach contact for conservative and faith-based groups. Tim’s extensive resumé includes serving as a senior fellow at The Heritage Foundation and as a communications director for U.S. Senator Dan Coats of Indiana and Gary Bauer at the Campaign for Working Families. Tim has authored a memoir, The Man in the Middle: Faith and Politics in the George W. Bush Era, and his latest book is titled American Restoration. He and his wife, Jenny, have two sons.

Key Takeaways:

  • Tim’s call to public square ministry and his thoughts on the importance of Christians serving in government.
  • Stories from his time as Special Assistant to President Bush and his efforts to build church-state partnerships on key issues.
  • Why he is gravely concerned for the United States, including cites to historical analogies.
  • Why the Imago Dei is central to the church’s public witness.
  • This quote, attributed to George Orwell, and its implications for our times: ““In a time of deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”
  • Practical ways to restore the American republic and build a culture that values the family, the church, religious freedom, civic duty, life and justice.
