Since the leak of the draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization last week, I have had a number of conversations about abortion law, potential outcomes, and how the church should respond. In this episode, I brought all of that together in an effort to provide a (fairly) comprehensive overview of what’s happening and how the church should prepare for the final decision in Dobbs.
In this episode, we point out a few developments around the country since the leak of the draft opinion (including other leaks), explain the potential outcomes of the Dobbs case (though there are indicators that a 5-Justice majority still intends to strike down Roe v. Wade, the case is, of course, not final until its final), give a brief overview of the draft opinion and potential legal developments at the state level if Roe and Casey are overturned, and explain how the church should respond internally and in public life.
Note/Correction: I mention several states with state constitutional protections for abortion. These state constitutional protections are due to state supreme court cases and not due to popular amendment of those state constitutions.
