Given the lingering effects of the COVID pandemic on church attendance and the general spiritual malaise reported by many church leaders, I was so encouraged on Easter Sunday to scroll through social media and see so many full churches! This is, of course, not a full and final indicator that all is well spiritually in the United States; but, hey, I’ll take some encouragement. The next question is how to move that Easter energy into more consistent engagement at church and in the community.

With that in mind, this week’s episode is on the importance of doing good works in your community (Mt. 5:16) as one way to mobilize people, develop community, and make a difference in your zip code. Gerson Cardona, our Deputy Director, has an incredible personal testimony and is passionate about encouraging churches to move outside their four walls and make a difference. Here is a recent sermon he preached at my home church on this topic.

Key Takeaways:

  • Why good works work together with the Good News to show the power and beauty of the Gospel (Mat. 5:16). Stated differently, though we are not saved by good works, we are saved to good works (James 2).
  • A remarkable story about how God moved in his family in a time of crisis.
  • Why God has an assignment for us in every season of life.
  • How to identify and pursue the unique calling God has for you in your community.
  • Why now is a unique opportunity for churches to engage in their zip code.
