Step #3: Maximize your Community Impact
Are your an Indispensable Part of Your Community?
A friend of our ministry, Pastor Peter Joudry, asks the question, “If your church disappeared tomorrow, would anyone other than your church members notice?” Here is a slightly modified version of that question: “If you disappeared tomorrow, would anyone other than the members of your church notice?” For many Christians, the sad answer to that question is “no.”
Many Christians talk about having impact in their communities. They desire to be “incarnational” rather than just “attractional.” They want to be known for showing the love of Christ to their neighbors. But, actually accomplishing this (especially in our changing times is hard to do.
5 Steps to Community Impact
We have worked with many Christians that have successfully become indispensable in their communities, and their stories have five common elements/steps. They are:
- Start by meeting with key leaders (especially in your field or area of calling) in your community and asking how you can pray and help.
- Identify your current bridges into the community (for example, sports, PTA, business associations, etc.).
- Identify the greatest challenges to and opportunities in your community (for example, many communities struggle with the drug epidemic, blighted properties, struggling schools or a homeless population).
- Identify community partners that can maximize your Gospel impact.
- Work strategically to help solve these challenges with a focus on Gospel impact.
Our goal is to help you maximize your Gospel impact in your community. This is not just one more thing to put on your calendar. Our focus is on identifying one or two key areas and focusing your efforts in those areas.
How can we help you?
